Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

In my previous 'review' of the movie I said that I knew I wasn't going to watch this movie again– but then the WGA sent out an email with a link to a digital screener, so I said fuck it and put it on. I liked it even less! And what's worse, is that because I was watching in the comfort of my own home, I started just writing notes about things I didn't like, which is an incredibly poisonous…

  • Richard Jewell

    Richard Jewell

Most accurate scene in this movie is when the crowd at a Kenny Rogers concert claps along to the music with absolutely appalling rhythm.

Take a drink every time they say “Richard Jewell.”

  • Appropriate Behavior

    Appropriate Behavior

I've never seen a movie with such an unlikeable protagonist.

  • Shaft

I only watched this because it's on Netflix outside the US, but I am truly fascinated at how every Tim Story movies feels like it was made at the same time as the original Barbershop. Sam Jackson's comedic timing is as great as ever (has he been relegated to just being the "motherfucker" motherfucker so long that watching him have fun felt fresh to me?) but it's wasted on this wildly regressive trash flick.

  • Isn't It Romantic

    Isn't It Romantic

Brandon Scott-Jones and Betty Gilpan are absolute stars. Bowen Yang and Sandy Honig are underutilized treasures. The rest of this movie is not for me!

  • Serenity

  • To All the Boys I've Loved Before

To All the Boys I've Loved Before

So many people insisted that this movie was actually great and that the half I didn't finish would redeem the half I did, so I finished it. And it didn't.

The weird, isolated cinematography never resolved, the acting and writing still seemed really bad (especially from the Dad and youngest daughter) and honestly, the whole thing feels like a completely formulaic mid-2000s rom-com with a bad plot and a pretty standard rom-com love interest (I do not understand why everybody…

  • How High

    How High

Peak 2000s cable comedy. None of it makes sense. It's a series of self-contained gags and scenes stitched together into a vague 70s "stodgy-teacher-hates-the-cool-kids" plot, designed so that anybody just flipping through channels can see enough of it to go "oh that seems fun."

And it is! Kind of! It's also extremely problematic and offensive in almost every way, and does not hold up very much as anything other than a benchmark for what black comedy was in the early 2000s. Method & Red are charming as fuck, tho.

  • Deadpool

"just don't make the suit green!!!! or animated!!!!!!!!!"

    fuck you

  • Achoo

this just FELT like the short film version of those rip-off kids movies you find in a bargain bin at wal-mart

  • Weeds

they try to spell out the metaphor right in front of you both before and after the short but... it doesn't track with the animation very well?
