    Sorry We Missed You

    ★★★★

An absolute gut-punch of a film from Ken Loach. Sorry We Missed You is a tragically real and natural account of a working-class English family. It’s a sociopolitical drama that never feels sensationalized as we follow the daily struggles of a delivery man who has the cards constantly stacked against him. While it’s not the most uplifting or hopeful film out there, Loach displays his anger on the current political climate in a manner that we all can relate to. It’s a…

  • Queen & Slim

    Queen & Slim

    ★★½

Queen & Slim is a beautifully directed and shot film lessened by a weak, borderline hilarious script and a confused thesis that walks the fine line of each side’s opinion. There’s no doubt that Melina Matsoukas is an incredible visual storyteller, but with a more coherent and subtle script, Queen & Slim would’ve had the potential to become an incredibly bold and heartbreaking love story.

    Color Out of Space

    ★★★½

Richard Stanley’s Color Out of Space is a batshit insane horror flick with Nic Cage madness galore, trippy visuals and lots & lots of alpacas. It’s a helluva time albeit a bit messy, but worth a watch just to see some fun, no holds barred genre filmmaking.

this would have been 10x better had Will Smith’s character just been his Genie running around Miami screaming “Friend Like Me” as him and Martin Lawrence take down a drug cartel... we all know this would’ve been brilliant.

    1917

    ★★★★½

Sam Mendes’ compelling war drama, 1917, is an unsparing technical achievement that will be discussed at length for years to come.

With war looming in the back of our minds today, a story like 1917’s is an important one to tell. A film that not only explores the horrors of war, but dives into the humanity of it is something rare in the genre nowadays. The “war film” is a genre that has felt so one-note of the years and it’s…

    A Ghost Story

    ★★★★★

“David Lowery’s beautiful exploration of love and loss is a visual experience that wholeheartedly portrays the magnitude of existence. It’s a film that easily could’ve come off as outlandish—Rooney Mara eats a pie for 5 minutes straight and Casey Affleck walks around in a bed sheet for almost the entire film—but in reality, it’s a poetic and minimalist drama crafted with such delicacy. Lowery masterfully captures the profound nihility and complexity of death, and the eternally tedious life of a…
