I thought the switch from the brother to sister perspective was unique and I definitely cried 4 times watching this because I could relate to that whole family dynamic.
I thought the film was raw and did an excellent job at portraying teenagers in this current society. The performance from Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Taylor Russell was phenomenal and what they showed us was really special. Just their vulnerability and the look in their faces made me ache. The cinematography was beautiful and I love the production design use of the colors blue and yellow that was incorporated in almost every scene
At times it did feel rushed and I cringed so hard at the text message scenes. And although I love Frank Ocean, Blood Orange and the other artists used in WAVES, I personally feel like films lose their magic when it’s so forceful on the latest trends. Maybe I’m just a traditionalist but it didn’t feel natural.
